A family support worker in a primary school
‘Lisa and I worked together for several years, she was the Educational Social Worker and I was the Family Support Worker, I learned so much from working with her. Lisa knew the best way forward when I called her about a family that I was concerned about. Two siblings hadn’t presented at school and on the third day of absence Lisa and I went to the house. It transpired that the parent had postnatal depression. Lisa took her time with the parent, listening and gaining a full understanding of the situation. By the end of that visit the parent and children had eaten, were dressed and ready for school, the parent was also supported to book a GP appointment for that day. Lisa arranged to meet the parent the next day and a Family CAF was completed with Lisa ensuring that future support was coordinated by a team around the family. Lisa developed a strategy to address the children’s attendance, whilst at the same time ensuring that the provision of holistic support to all of the family was regularly reviewed. Her flexible approach to working meant that each family had an individualised and personalised action plan of support to meet their needs.’
